  • Understanding Dementia:  The course explains the differences between dementia and normal age-related changes, explores various types of dementia including Alzheimer's, and delves into the pathology of these diseases.

  • Person-Centered Care:  A core focus is on providing compassionate, individualized care that respects the dignity and autonomy of individuals living with dementia. This includes understanding their unique needs, preferences, and life history.

  • Communication Strategies:  The course teaches effective communication techniques for interacting with individuals experiencing cognitive decline, including strategies for addressing common challenges like aphasia and agitation.
